Where is Malaysia | Geographical Location

Malaysia, a vibrant and thriving nation lies in the heart of Southeast Asia.  Malaysia  consists of two parts, between 2 to 7 degrees north of the Equator, the Peninsular Malaysia on the west known as West Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak on the east joined by Indonesia

States of Malaysia

Peninsular Malaysia consists of 5 regions.  State belong to each region are as below:-

  1. Northern Region: Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak

  2. Southern Region: Melaka and Negeri Sembilan

  3. Central Region: Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya

  4. East Coast Region: Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan

  5. East Malaysia: Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan

People | Malaysian

Malaysia is a multi-racial country with a population of 28.3 million in 2009.  This consists of the Malays who make up 53.3%, the Chinese 26.0%, the indigenous (the Ibans, Bidayuhs, Kenyahs, Kasazans, Kelabits, Muruts, Kayans, Bisayas, Melanaus and Eurasians) 11.8%, the Indian 7.7% and others 1.2%.

Religious: Islam (60.4%), Buddhism (19.2%), Christianity (9.1%), Hinduism (6.3%), other or none (5.0%).  Islam is the official religion.

Languages: Bahasa Melayu, Chinese (various dialects), English, Tamil, Indigenous.  Bahasa Melayu is the official language.

English is widely spoken and is extensively used in commerce and industry.  The freedom of other religions is allowed to practice freely in the country.

Climate

Malaysia has a tropical climate.  Generally warm all the year round.  Temperatures can ranges from 21˚C to 32˚C and rainfall are occasionally.  The best time to visit the beaches facing the South China Sea is during March to October.

Cloths

Anything is just fine to wear, as comfortable as you want.  Just take note that there are NO nude beaches in Malaysia.  Please do not naked yourself on the beaches as it is disrespect to the locals 

Time

Malaysia is eight hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) time and 16 hour ahead of U.S. Pacific Standard Time.  It shares the same time zone with Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan.

Currency

You can almost change any currency with any money changers in town.  Traveller's Cheque can be cashed out at banks, some hotels and moneychangers.  Most credit cards are also accepted in the shopping malls and hotels.

The Ringgit (RM) is Malaysia's unit of currency. Notes are call Ringgit and come in denominations of $100, $50, $10, $5 and $1.  Coins are called sen (RM 1 = 100 sen) and come in 5 sen, 10 sen, 20 sen and 50 sen.
